TP52 ‘Calm’

In 2010 we were commissioned to optimise the boat configuration for the IRC rule. The job took place on site at Sandringham Yacht Club. We had to build a cocoon over the boat to protect it (and us) from the weather. Several modifications were made:

  • we extended the side decks and hull to be square with the transom
  • chain plates were fitted to the transom for a new running backstay system to suit a square top mainsail
  • we had to relocate 50% of the stanchions as we had moved the pushpits to the transom
  • laminated a new custom carbon bowsprit
  • custom carbon-fibre compass binnacles and danbuoy holder
  • resprayed the entire deck with non-skid, including custom graphics stenciled into the aft deck
  • resprayed the cockpit sides
  • resprayed the hull and transom to blend in the modifications

As a result of these modifications, the boat is considerably more competitive, placing 5th overall in the 2012 Sydney to Hobart race.
